ABC restructures to reflect changing media industry

ABC has moved to restructure its business to reflect the increasingly multi-platform way in which companies are delivering content. The changes will allow the group to best serve the needs of both the buying and selling communities and support the massive growth in the measurement of online properties. After a year which has seen the group take a lot of flack over the ad:tech reporting fiasco, the changes will also see ABC take measure to sure up its auditing process.

Account teams responsible for managing ABC's traditional media owner members (print based) will take on additional responsibility for all ABC relevant platforms. Specifically online/digital and exhibitions/events. Specialist new media clients will be the key responsibility of the ABCe team. This is the fastest growing advertising sector and one where standards and accountability are new and developing.

Martyn Gates, director of newspapers, will be responsible, cross platform, for national newspapers, regional newspapers (combined paid and free), and free distribution newspapers. Jan Pitt, director of magazines and exhibitions, will be responsible, cross platform, for B2B magazines and consumer magazines as well as exhibitions. Richard Foan, MD of ABCe, will be responsible for all new media companies across the large range of developing media entities such as online TV and radio.

In addition to the roles outlined above, the directors will be responsible for the management of the reporting standards. The standards will continue to be set by the relevant ABC specialist committees with Jan Pitt responsible for facilitating Magazine Standard together with Exhibition Standards.

In addition all audit functions will now be centralised. This will be headed up by Henry Wallis who has been appointed as a new director of audit. This will allow the ABC auditing 'centre of excellence' to deliver best practice and provide the market with additional assurances of the robustness of its auditing process.
