New Appointments at American Express Global Business Travel

Christine Ourmieres-Widener

American Express Global Business Travel announced some notable appointments over the last few days.

Most recently, Christine Ourmieres-Widener was named Chief Global Sales Officer. In this role, Ourmieres-Widener, who was previously Chief Executive Officer of CityJet, will be responsible for GBT’s Global Sales organization and Global Client Group, which work with GBT’s largest prospective and existing customers globally, as well as its Global Business Consulting division. Ourmieres-Widener, who will officially start with GBT in June, will report to GBT’s Chief Commercial & Technology Officer, Philippe Chérèque.
“Companies with complex global operations and corporate travel needs look to GBT to go beyond best-in-class booking and servicing to integrate policy development, traveler engagement, compliance and business intelligence into end-to-end travel solutions,” Philippe Chérèque, Chief Commercial & Technology Officer, American Express Global Business Travel, said in a statement. “Combined with investments in information, technology and products, this newly created role will capitalize on the synergies within our global sales, client management and consulting teams to advance our customer relationships.”
Based in London, Ourmieres-Widener joins GBT from European airline CityJet, where she has served as Chief Executive Officer since 2010. In this role Ourmieres-Widener led the airline through a period of significant change as it transitioned from fully-owned subsidiary of Air France KLM to an independent company. This included spearheading the investor process, developing future business plans, as well as the redesign of all of CityJet’s organizational processes, policies and technology.
Prior to her role as Chief Executive Officer of CityJet, Ourmieres-Widener spent several years with Air France KLM, most recently as Vice President and General Manager for Air France KLM in the United States, and as General Manager for the UK and Ireland operations before that.

Chérèque himself recently undertook new responsibilities, having been appointed to expand his remit from Chief Technology Officer to Chief Commercial and Technology Officer.

As part of his newly expanded role, Chérèque will lead all of GBT’s customer-facing business divisions, including Sales and Client Management, Global Business Consulting, and Meetings & Events. By bringing customer-facing teams and activities under one leader, GBT aims to foster greater collaboration and enable deeper levels of customer and industry-specific insight across verticals and geographies.

Chérèque joined GBT as Chief Technology Officer in September 2014. He previously held the role of Executive Vice President of Commercial at Amadeus Technology Group SA, where he led the worldwide implementation of Amadeus Technology’s commercial strategy. Prior to that, Chérèque served as the Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy, responsible for driving and coordinating the company’s business development, marketing, technical architecture and product plan. He was one of the founders of Amadeus Global Travel Distribution S.A.

In addition, Steve Curts, who was Senior Vice President, Internal Business Systems, has been appointed to the newly-created role of Chief Strategy Officer.
As Chief Strategy Officer, Curts will lead the M&A group, expand and strengthen partnerships and centralize GBT’s data analytics and business intelligence function. Additionally, Curts will oversee the Company’s marketing and public relations activities.
Curts joined GBT as Senior Vice President, Internal Business Systems in May 2014. He was previously Vice President, Dell Services, Services Delivery, at Dell. In his roles at Dell, Curts led strategic operations to revitalize Dell’s Infrastructure and Cloud Computing Healthcare Industry Group. Prior to that, he held several senior leadership positions within Perot Systems, including leading the Commercial Solutions Group.
Both Chérèque and Curts will report to Bill Glenn, President and Chief Executive Officer of American Express Global Business Travel.
