Supplier News: New Event Tech Partnership, New Hotels




A big new event technology partnership leads this week’s supplier news in the meetings and events industry.

Event content management software developer Hubb has joined Glisser, ShowGizmo, Swoogo and TRC to form the Event Tech Tribe, a partnership of event technology providers dedicated to equipping event managers, planners and marketers with best-in-class technology solutions. 

The Event Tech Tribe offers event professionals access to technologies, expertise and support from its member companies, whose solutions address critical event management workflows including registration, content management, mobile applications, attendee badging and tracking, and interactive presentations.

Each member of the Event Tech Tribe can access its partners’ services and solutions on behalf of its customers, offering a comprehensive portfolio of solutions, all designed to simplify work and amplify results for event professionals. The founding companies of the Event Tech Tribe have committed to integrate their complementary technology solutions, assuring interoperability between systems, and have made a year-long commitment to a series of live in-person and online events to bring the latest in best practices and industry intelligence to event managers and planners.

Every Tribe company is led by an experienced event professional who sits on the committee that directs the organization’s efforts.

The Event Tech Tribe will host a no-cost webinar series about sharing best practices, new innovations and practical tools to help event managers and planners enhance their skill sets. On January 25, the Tribe will host the first of a monthly curriculum of Event Intelligence webinars, focused on the emerging API Economy in event tech. In addition, the Tribe will host a series of lunch-and-learn events, offering CMP credits on a variety of event management topics, with the first gatherings scheduled for March 28 in New York and March 29 in Washington, D.C.

Renaissance Hotels has announced the opening of its first hotel in Sub-Saharan Africa — the Renaissance Lagos Ikeja Hotel

Located in Nigeria’s commercial center and city known for its music, fashion, cuisine, art and nightlife, the Renaissance Lagos Ikeja offers eight meeting rooms that can be adapted to cater to the needs of a six-person board meeting or a banquet-style event with up to 280 attendees. A dedicated bar and flexible breakout areas complement the meeting areas, offering space for events ranging from small meetings to large-scale corporate events.

Centrally located in Ikeja GRA and 5km from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Renaissance Lagos Ikeja Hotel is home to 155 guest rooms including 17 contemporary loft suites. The rooms have seating areas with large LED TVs with 70 plus channels. Guests can also enjoy an outdoor pool with city views and a 24-hour fitness centre. 

Dining options at Renaissance Lagos Ikeja include Cut, a specialty steakhouse, and an all-day dining restaurant, Iyeru Okin, which offers a buffet lunch with traditional and continental dishes. Sweet treats, aperitifs and lattes can be enjoyed in the hotel’s coffeehouse, Choco-Latte. And open 24-hours, RBar will also offer visitors handcrafted cocktails and light bites.

The hotel is also next to key attractions such as the National Railway Corporation Museum, Afrika Shrine and Kalakuta Museum.

w budapest

W Hotels Worldwide, now part of Marriott International, has announced an agreement with QPR Properties Kft, part of Constellation Hotels Holding Ltd., to debut the W Hotels brand in Hungary with the opening of W Budapest.

The new boutique hotel will offer planners three meeting and event spaces, including a Great Room for larger celebrations, along with an Away Spa, FIT fitness center, and WET pool. Guests can also expect the W brand’s signature Whatever/Whenever service.

Located on Andrassy Avenue, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the hotel will be situated on a prominent shopping street and directly across from the State Opera House. The hotel will be housed in the Drechsler Palace, which will be fully renovated. W Budapest will have 162 guest rooms and suites, including one Extreme WOW Suite, the brand’s take on the Presidential Suite. The hotel will offer a restaurant and a destination bar, as well as the signature W Living Room lobby experience.

Following the openings of W Hotels in Istanbul, Barcelona, St. Petersburg, London, Paris and Verbier, W Amsterdam became the seventh W Hotel in Europe when it opened in October 2015. W Hotels now has a worldwide portfolio of 50 properties around the globe, and is on track to reach 75 hotels by 2020.

ritz-carlton haikou

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company has teed off 2017 with the opening of its first golf resort in China. The Ritz-Carlton, Haikou on Hainan Island is situated on the golf resort of Mission Hills, which has ten 18-hole championship courses.

The 175-room, 16-suite hotel has 3,500 square meters of banquet facilities for conferences and celebrations. Spaces include a 1,350 square meter Grand Ballroom, two Junior Ballrooms (275 square meters each), seven Meeting Rooms and one Boardroom. A manicured Fairway Lawn is also available for weddings and outdoor events.

Attendees at the property can also enjoy year-round tropical sunshine and access to the 350-acre Blackstone Course that weaves its way around the Mission Hills Golf Club. Built on top of a bedrock of ancient lava from extinct volcanos, the dramatic landscape has rocky outcrops with variations of jungle vegetation, lakes and wetlands which can be viewed from every room.

The Ritz-Carlton, Haikou pays homage to the heritage of golf throughout. The architects AECOM, with interior designers HBA Los Angeles, have created a design reminiscent of an elegant golf clubhouse. Guest rooms incorporate fabrics and patterns inspired by vintage golf elements.

On the roof, the hotel has the Flair Bar and patio, which overlooks the golf course and serves cocktails highlighting local fruits, including lychees from the trees that dot the grounds of Mission Hills. A Scottish bagpiper's lament signals the end the day before dinner in Flair's private dining room, which offers a selection of single-malt whiskies and cigars.

For dining guests can also enjoy the Tin Lung Heen Cantonese restaurant, which incorporates classic Chinese décor combined with contemporary textures of wood and stone. Diners can enjoy Cantonese cuisine and regional delicacies while listening to a master recite classic T'ang Dynasty poetry. Another restaurant, Terra, serves dishes ranging from Tuscany to China prepared by an international lineup of chefs.

The property’s Ritz-Carlton Spa has seven treatment rooms and offers a signature Golfer's Retreat treatment, amongst others. The Spa also has a steam room, cool mist showers and indoor vitality pools with jets, as well as a fitness center and swimming pool. Golfers can also prepare for the day with Golfer's Yoga on the lawn.

The younger guests of The Ritz-Carlton can enjoy the Ritz Kids program designed to build upon their imaginations. A variety of features include the Kids Club, an outdoor playground, a Kids swimming pool, bicycle rental and a Kids Golf Putting Area.

Within close proximity to the hotel, Mission Hills Centreville is an entertainment and nightlife hub. The design of the Town Center is influenced by design themes from all over the world, with an indoor and outdoor commercial shopping complex complete with ponds, bridges, islands and a plaza designed for festival activities.
