ICCA CEO Talks New Portal & Industry Networking




 

Yesterday, we reported that ICCA had launched an Association Portal designed to help association executives organize quality meetings. The portal will let meeting planners planners access their own meeting profile in the ICCA database, and to share insights with other association colleagues. 

"We've been working on the concept and consulting with international association 'friends' for the best part of the last two years," ICCA CEO Martin Sirk told International Meetings Review. "The genesis of the project was [when] we realized that—especially in Europe—there are no effective networks that connect association executives who aren't working in related fields, and who want to share experience and knowledge about the destinations and suppliers they are working with…Also,  there was a great deal of interest by these associations in having access to some of the data we have been collecting for decades on regularly occurring association meetings. This is the heart of our portal offering, around which we've wrapped all of other services and resources that over the years we've developed to help increase our connectivity with these executives."

Through the Portal, planners can search for the leading specialists in handling, transporting and accommodating international events (ICCA members) and access meetings resource publications on topics such as bidding and decision-making processes for associations, contracting with major congress & convention venues, negotiating with hotels, working with convention bureaux, and social media for events. Other resources available are the ICCA Statistics Reports, case studies and hosted buyer event information. Associations can also request advice on how to improve their bid manual.

"Only associations whose events meet our criteria will be invited to join (e.g., they must be responsible for at least one event which takes place regularly and rotates between at least three countries)," Sirk explained, "and we'll build up the participants slowly from an initial group of just under 200 until hopefully all associations with this type of meeting are using these services to interact with their peers, and through ICCA to connect more efficiently with our global membership of suppliers and destination marketers in 90 countries."
