Secret Service Warns of Data Thefts in Hotel Business Centers

Secret Service Warns of Data Thefts in Hotel Business Centers.Engadget reported that the U.S. Secret Service warned hotels this week of a new technique to steal hotel guest information by installing keyloggers onto hotel PCs. The main targets of these keyloggers are PCs in hotel business centers, where the data theft can be pulled off with little skill while gathering a wide variety of information.

The Secret Service recommends hotels give guests limited PC accounts and restrict them from installing applications. The danger comes from code being run from a CD or USB device, which can still steal account logins and banking information while sidestepping most security defenses. Guests are advised to continue to use their own devices to check sensitive information, and only use public hotel computers to view content they would be comfortable sharing with others.
