Portugal: Luís Araújo Is the New President of Portugal's Tourism Board

Luís Araújo, from Pestana hotel group, succeeds, in a interim basis, João Cotrim Figueiredo as President of Portugal Tourism Board (Turismo de Portugal). A recruitment process will be open to choose a final name for the job.

João Cotrim de Figueiredo was selected two years ago, having taken office on 8th December 2013. In a press release, Cotrim de Figueiredo explains that “it's a conscious decision I take, at a time when the country can be proud of the performance of Turismo de Portugal. The reasons for the undeniable success of the sector in recent years is not only the remarkable work of companies and public authorities, but also the winning strategy of Turismo de Portugal, performed with professionalism and independence."

Luís Araújo, from Pestana Group, was in charge of countries such as Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia and Cuba, and head of the sustainability department since 2009. He has a degree in law, and studied the Hotel business at Cornell, in New York. Between 2005 and 2007 we was cabinet chief of the Tourism Secretary of State, Bernardo Trindade.
