Portugal: IHG Announces InterContinental Lisboa and Crowne Plaza Porto
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced two new hotels in Portugal: InterContinental Lisboa and Crowne Plaza Porto. The two properties will be operated through a management agreement between Hotelgal SA, a subsidiary of Global Hotels & Resorts, and IHG.
The Lisbon unit will be inaugurated in a few weeks. The hotel dates from 1984, at the time Le Meridien, becoming Hotel Tiara Park Atlantic Lisboa in 2008. The Atlantic Park Hotel Porto will turn into Crowne Plaza Porto, but first it will be undergoing a major refurbishment.

Robert Shepherd, Chief Development Officer for IHG Europe, comments that "Lisbon is one of the most visited destinations in Southern Europe and the opening of InterContinental Lisbon, with a fantastic view over the city and park Eduardo VII, is a significant development for the brand in this region. Likewise, the Crowne Plaza Porto will be a meeting destination and have the perfect location to provide quality service and accommodation and support meetings for local entrepreneurs and companies."
Urs Gassmann, Chief Executive Officer of Global Hotels & Resorts, emphasizes that "we look forward to working with IHG in two of the most successful brands in the hotel industry and further increase the attractiveness of these properties. Both brands fit perfectly to their locations and we can not wait to open the doors of InterContinental Lisboa and Crowne Plaza Porto as soon as possible."
