Portugal: Altice Forum Braga: Eyes on the Future

In partnership with:

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Portuguese Republic, inaugurated earlier this week the Altice Forum Braga, a venue that results from the requalification of the former Parque de Exposições and is now on the major events' radar. "This is a significant step at a national and international level that shows well the leading role that the Municipality of Braga currently has," said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, praising its "ability to achieve a unique project that is a permanent start in building the future and a better country."

The Presidente emphasised the city's dynamism, creativity and entrepreneurship, as well as its economic growth, job creation and the ability to attract large companies. "This Forum is a beginning, not the end of the road. It is an equipment that has to respond to the expectations that it arouses in cultural quality, in economic activity, in social adhesion, serving not only its own people, but the whole country, while it is also open to Europe and the world, contributing even more to a greater social homogeneity."

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also warned that Braga's great goals should continue to be youth, demographic dynamism and investing in the future. "These are the great challenges for Braga, but also for Portugal, which has to maintain the ambition of growth, employment, exports, investment, debt reduction, combating indifference and social injustice."

Also with his eyes on the future, Ricardo Rio, Mayor of Braga, stressed that this is a venue that "marks the present and future of Braga", which belongs to its people and to all who will enjoy its facilities. "It is a venue Braga inhabitants longed to see reinvented and requalified, allowing to make the impossible possible and to achieve what until very recently seemed unimaginable to happen in the city of Braga." Ricardo Rio believes that the Altice Braga Forum will now be "the natural venue to host multiple sports, social, scientific, economic and cultural events that will be the meeting point in the city of Braga".

For its part, InvestBraga president Carlos Oliveira stressed that this venue also allows to reinforce the investm in business tourism, "a strategic sector of this project, which involves promoting this type of tourism, with the holding of congresses, meetings and various corporate activities, such as corporate dinners, which bring Braga visitors to events that take the opportunity to get to know the city ".

After the reconstruction process, which cost more than nine million euros, this venue opened its doors on April 29th 2018, having already received more than 40 events and welcomed more than 100 thousand visitors. It was officially inaugurated yesterday as Altice Forum Braga - so designated since September 10th, after the signing of a naming rights agreement between InvestBraga and Altice Portugal, in a three-year partnership, in which the operator invests one million euros in technology / ticketing and communication in the marketing channels. Altice Forum Braga has the largest auditorium in the North, with 1,454 seats, and the second largest auditorium in the country, after Altice Arena, with capacity for 12 thousand seats.

The official opening day ended with a concert by the American band Thirty Seconds To Mars. Other large-scale events are already confirmed, including the Congress of the Order of Psychologists, the INL Summit, the Postmodern Jukebox and Harlem Gospel Choir concerts and the Dance World Cup.
