Las Vegas Prepares for International Consumer Electronics Show

Las Vegas is gearing up for the annual International Consumer Electronics Show, which begins on Tuesday and is expected to bring more than 150,000 people to the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Sands Expo and several nearby hotels.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, the conference is the largest tech gathering in North America. Last year’s event brought 160,498 people to Las Vegas, including 40,828 international attendees from 140 countries and 3,673 exhibitors across an estimated 2.06 million square feet of exhibit space.

The Associated Press reports that officials at the city's main airport are  updating a decades-old terminal to accommodate the increased traffic.

Thousands of outlets and USB ports under seats and inside bars and restaurants will be available for those looking for a power charge in McCarran International Airport's Terminal 1 following the show. The airport installed free airport-wide Wi-Fi ahead of the electronics show 10 years ago, long before smartphones were commonplace.

Don't expect the show to get any bigger going forward: As Bloomberg notes, last January's gathering "somehow packed in a full 10,000 more people than Las Vegas has rooms for them to sleep in," and attendance has been capped at 160,000.
