Qatar lands major conference business

The brand new Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), currently under construction in Doha, will open in 2011 with a host of events already on its calendar.

“Qatar is not yet globally recognised as a world-class conventions destination; however that is quickly changing,” said Paul D'Arcy, general manager, Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).

“Doha has been chosen to host numerous prestigious international conventions including the World Petroleum Congress in November 2011, which will attract some 5,000 attendees and the Universal Postal Union Congress in 2012. We are only in the preliminary marketing stages of QNCC, and have been delighted with the high interest levels to date. We are currently working on a number of convention bids and will soon be able to announce more successes,” D’Arcy told meetme.

QNCC will be located at Educated City, Doha’s education, research and scientific hub which is home to over 30 institutions including six universities, Qatar Science & Technology Park, Sidra Medical and Research Centre and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre. “There will be a greater opportunity to attract regional meetings with these facilities on our doorstep,” said D’Arcy.
