Middle East: Oman's Budget-Friendly Meeting Gem

In partnership with:

It regularly plays host to local government meetings but Millennium Resort Mussanah is looking to build regional business by raising awareness of its scenic location and affordable rates.

“To date, the majority of our meeting and incentive business has been generated locally but we are now hoping to attract more business from the UAE and wider GCC by promoting the property as a unique getaway that is not going to break the bank,” said General Manager Maurice de Rooij. “The hotel offers a complete change from the city of Muscat, with space to create unique experiences including a wide variety of individual and team-based activities.”

With regards to trends, de Rooij notes that lead times are shorter than they used to be.
“Advance planning seems almost nonexistent with requests for group bookings with as little as two weeks’ notice,” he said. “We are fortunate to have a team of professionals who are able to pull together events for up to 1,000 at very short notice.

“Event planners are, naturally, always trying to negotiate the most positive outcome for their client and we are happy to work with them to achieve that,” he continued.

“Cost is a factor, but so is trust – trust that the hotel will deliver what is promised, without too many problems. Planners are increasingly looking to hotels to provide complete solutions without involving third parties. As such, we have strengthened relationships with our local suppliers to enable us to source necessary equipment and expertise. Flexibility and responsiveness to the requirements of our clients is key.”

In future, Millennium Resort Mussanah will be launching ladies’-only events, making the most of the resort’s extensive leisure facilities that include a separate ladies’ pool and ladies’ spa.

“We will also be adding a ladies’ butler service to further support our guests’ needs," said de Rooij. Events of this nature already hosted include the Drwazza Ramadan Training Programme for Ladies in July 2014 and the Musamahitte Seminar for Mussanah Ladies in September 2014. Both comprised seminars and skills workshops to empower women in the community.

All-female company away days with bespoke packages that utilise the ladies-only facilities at the resort include those for the Rustaq Nursing Conference and the Port of Sohar Ladies Away Day.
