With its spacious meeting facilities, including one of the largest ballrooms in the city, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, Abu Dhabi, is a complete meeting and convention hotel, said General Manager Nils Axing

As the venue of choice for a number of high-profile events, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, Abu Dhabi, is making its mark on the UAE capital. 

Since opening in 2009, calendar highlights have included events for Abu Dhabi Film Festival and Gourmet Abu Dhabi, as well as a Nike Signing Event for top-ranking golfer Rory McIlroy. Most recently, the property hosted the inauguration function for Etihad Airways’ Airbus A380 and a regional launch event for Mercedes Benz’s 2015 S-Class luxury car. 

“Around 25 to 30 percent of our business comes from the meeting and event segment,” said General Manager Nils Axing. “Top sectors include the government, IT and pharmaceutical industry with a healthy geographic mixture of clients. The UAE, UK, US and India are our primary source markets.” 
With a focus on growing its meeting business and diversifying its reach to emerging markets that are delivering increasing numbers of visitors to Abu Dhabi, the property is gearing up for a busy year. 
What makes your meeting facilities stand out from the crowd? 

Abu Dhabi is known for its rapid economic growth and its flourishing conferences, events and incentive industry. Recognising this need, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, Abu Dhabi, offers over 2,500 square metres of venue space that can host a range of functions from corporate meetings, outdoor receptions and private dinners to press conferences and conventions. Our spacious 945-square-metre Saqr Ballroom is designed with comfort and flexibility in mind. An outdoor lawn and beach venue offer spectacular views of Abu Dhabi Creek and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Add to this an additional six meeting rooms of varying capacities – all conveniently located on one level – and you have a complete meeting and convention hotel. 

Define the unique selling point. 
Our Saqr Ballroom is one of the largest ballrooms in the city. It has stunning views of Abu Dhabi Creek and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows that run the length of the ballroom. 

What technology is available? 
We are passionate about investing in and providing the latest technology from an audio-visual perspective. As such, as have an exclusive in-house event technology service partner, Gearhouse, to provide technical support to guests. Our technological services include audio reinforcement, high-definition LED screens, projection systems, lighting, staging, technical project management and a full range of speaker and production support services. 

How do you ensure planners receive a personalised service? 
Our in-house team offers expert knowledge and support in planning events of all sizes and making them successful. In each case, guests are met with the personalised touch of our dedicated conference concierge. We also offer banqueting options and every detail can be customised. 

Describe the entertainment options available. 
Guests can enjoy a variety of culinary experiences, ranging from casual poolside dining to award-winning gourmet fare. Our choices include Frankie’s Italian Restaurant & Bar, Marco Pierre White Steakhouse & Grill and elegant, yet casual, dining in CuiScene. 

How can guests unwind? 
The hotel boasts an Olympic-length outdoor swimming pool, a shaded children’s pool and two private sandy beaches. For exercise enthusiasts, the Health Club offers a mixeduse gym with a range of cardiovascular and weight-training machines and personal training services. There are separate facilities for women. 

How will the hotel’s meeting and event proposition evolve in future? 
We hope to enhance our authentic local experiences by engaging local companies to work alongside us. In doing so, we will be able to provide our guests with a ‘destination experience’ and offer them more from their regular hotel stay.

ACCOMMODATION 
The hotel has 369 rooms and suites. Each features interactive media panels, interactive televisions and high-speed Internet. In addition, 72 Fairmont Gold rooms and suites, located on Fairmont Gold floors, offer amenities such as a 24-hour on-call butler, access to the private lounge, a dedicated concierge service and private check-in/out areas.

MEETING FACILITIES 
More than 2,500 square metres of flexible, modern function space, including six meeting venues, an outdoor lawn and beach venue and a spacious ballroom that can accommodate up to 1,100 guests. A dedicated conference concierge offers tailormade meeting experiences and banqueting options while an ‘IT butler’ service takes care of technology needs. 

LEISURE FACILITIES 
The hotel has eight restaurants and bars offering a variety of cuisine. Its Health Club offers a mixed-use gym. There is an Olympiclength outdoor swimming pool, a shaded children’s pool and private sandy beaches – all with spectacular views. On-site activities include kayaking and beach sports.
