Middle East: AIPC 2014 Member Survey points to brighter future

In partnership with:

Recovery and business optimism characterised the latest annual survey carried out by AIPC, the International Association of Convention Centres

The survey found total revenue increased by 3.1 percent worldwide in 2013 and this is projected to increase 4.7 percent in 2014. In a clear sign of optimism in the industry, the percentage of members saying they are experiencing either strong or moderate growth has increased to 79 percent from only 52 percent in 2013.

The number of major capital investment projects such as expansions and renovations are also increasing worldwide, with 71 percent of members saying they are planning or developing an expansion, renovation or other significant investment in their facilities – up from 62 percent last year.
At 9.2 percent in 2013, revenues in Africa grew the fastest in the world and African members are forecasting the highest rate of revenue growth in 2014 as well.

“Finally, we are seeing clear signs of departure from the economic uncertainty that has characterised our sector since the onset of the recent global recession,” said Geoff Donaghy, AIPC President.

Carried out between April and June 2014, the survey achieved a 60+ percent response rate from centres in 54 countries.
