Middle East: ADNEC Hosts Landmark Edition of Middle East’s Largest Oil and Gas Event
The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) is hosting more than 60,000 guests from 127 countries this week for the 17th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), the region’s largest oil and gas event and among the top three in the sector worldwide.
This year’s edition is a landmark for ADIPEC as it celebrates 30 years of serving the oil and gas sector. Inaugurated in 1984, it was re-launched last year as an annual event. Addressing the theme of ‘Challenges and Opportunities for the Next 30 Years’, this year’s exhibition and conference, which is taking place from November 10 to 13, is being organised by ANEC’s long-term strategic partner dmg events.
This year the event is hosting 16 National Oil Companies (NOCs) and 17 International Oil Companies (IOCs), confirming the position of ADIPEC as a leading forum on hydrocarbons and a platform with global reach. Among the new companies participating in the event are LUKOIL from Russia and ENI from Italy. Asian representation is strong with PERTAMINA and SKK Migas from Indonesia and GS Energy from Korea.
The event is divided into two sections: the exhibition and the conference. The exhibition alone is seeing 20 international pavilions showcasing thousands of oil industry products from more than 1,800 exhibitors to attendees, 53 percent of whom have been estimated to have joint or direct purchasing authority.
The second section of the event is the conference, which is the largest conference programme in the world. Under the theme for this year - Challenges and Opportunities for the Next 30 Years – the conference is seeing 81 technical sessions, a ministerial panel session, two executive plenary sessions, eight executive panel sessions, four academia sessions and three IT ones. A total of 600 speakers from 111 organisations across 37 countries are putting forward their views at the conference
This year has also seen the addition of a seventh and new category to the ADIPEC awards, which are a part of the event. The Best Oilfield Services Company Award will recognise exceptional service to the region's oil and gas industry, based on ethical and sustainable practice, adherence to timelines, cost control, and overall value.
Earlier, ADIPEC 2014 featured The Official ADIPEC 2014 Golf Day on November 9 at the Yas Links golf course on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island, the first time ever that a programme such as this was included in the event. Offering delegates an opportunity to network while enjoying a leisure attraction, the Golf Day saw four-person company teams playing off against each other, adding an incentive note to proceedings.
ADIPEC 2014 is being hosted by ADNEC, which is also host to several other big-ticket international events. Similar events in the pipeline include Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week; the World Future Energy Summit, which will welcome 30,000 future energy and clean technology professionals; and World Energy Congress 2019.
Humaid Al Dhaheri, Acting Group CEO of ADNEC, said: "We are excited to be hosting this milestone edition of ADIPEC. The event has grown into the most important energy events outside of North America, and that is testament its organisers and sponsors.
“ADIPEC, together with next year’s World Future Energy Summit and the recent announcement about World Energy Congress in 2019, demonstrates that our facility is providing a gateway to the energy future. And it continues to grow as a meeting place, where leaders from all corners of our energy world can exchange ideas and knowledge to progress this critically important sector.”
With more than 1.5 million visitors last year alone, ADNEC has played a key role in helping Abu Dhabi’s sharp rise in the International Congress and Convention Association’s (ICCA) list of top 100 busiest global meetings destinations.
