Middle East: Abu Dhabi incentives lure EIBTM crowd

Abu Dhabi is anticipating meeting business wins in Europe after presenting attractive incentives to planners at the 2013 edition of EIBTM in Barcelona in November. The Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) promoted its “quick-win initiative” at the high-profile meetings industry event, offering free experiences to delegates booking meetings in the UAE capital.

“Based on a sliding scale of room nights, we have a total of 13 incentives on offer ranging from free rounds of golf on our championship courses, free city tours and Emirati-style evening functions to ‘Speedster Specials’ at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, desert safaris, dune dinners, camel tours, and full-day meetings packages,” explained TCA Abu Dhabi Director Promotions and Overseas Offices, Mubarak Al Nuaimi.
Trips to Abu Dhabi’s award-winning Falcon Hospital, tours of the emirate’s heritage heartland of Al Ain and its UNESCO sites, VIP tours of Yas Marina Circuit, entrance to Yas Waterworld waterpark, cultural education sessions and event logo development are also up for grabs, he added.
Europe is an important market for Abu Dhabi, both on a corporate and association level. Recent European arrivals to the emirate have included Nokia Global, which staged an international product launch attended by 950 people, while Ricoh International, based out of The Netherlands, has described Abu Dhabi as “a favourite spot for conferences” after its recent meeting for service department leaders from the EMEA region.
“The company said Abu Dhabi was a place of interest for Ricoh, both as a site for conferencing as well as an opportunity to expand their business,” explained Al Nuaimi.
He reiterated Abu Dhabi’s determination to rank among ICCA’s Top 50 busiest association meetings destinations within the next five years.
The emirate is currently ranked in the top 100 but Al Nuaimi said cracking Europe was the key to achieving the top 50 goal given it was “the heart of the association market”.
