How the 2020 World Expo Will Drive UAE Development

Rob Nicholas, managing director of Nicholas Publishing International (NPI) and publisher of Meet Middle East Magazine shared his overview of development in the region.

Dubai's winning of the 2020 World Expo seems to have galvanized the UAE and neighboring Gulf states into accelerated focus and development on the meetings industry with association congresses at the core of their respective plans.

But while the UAE is certainly riding the World Expo wave, the region itself is benefiting from a collection of increasingly coordinated and well organized convention bureaus which are strategically aligned to the economic diversification plans of the countries and states they represent. What the World Expo has done, however, is to bring many of these plans forwards as the Gulf seeks to capitalize on the international spotlight that the event will bring.
The Gulf states are maturing into top destinations for events that may not yet have experienced the opportunity the Middle East represents for investors, institutions, and NGOs.
