The president of the UAE chapter of SITE spends a minute with Sarah Campbell.

When will the SITE UAE Chapter be functional?

It is already in operation. We are a chapter in formation and will have an official chapter from the beginning of 2009.

How many members currently belong to the chapter and how are you planning to increase membership?

At last count, we were 42 members in all.

What are the benefits of joining the SITE UAE chapter?

One of the major benefits is the availability of networking opportunities within the global SITE community. For example, ESNEP (European SITE Networking & Education Programme) and the SITE Global Conference are great meeting opportunities.

The association also offers numerous training opportunities such as Young Leaders programmes as well as a number of conferences addressing a variety of topics that affect the industry.

Joining the association enables companies to get on the SITE global profile and provides the opportunity to become part of a peerless professional community. SITE is the only association which effectively addresses all aspects of the MICE acronym. Leaders of SITE are therefore seen as credible professionals in the meetings, incentives, conferences and events industries.

SITE allows members to build on key relationships and form bonds of trust that extend to and beyond the companies they work for.

SITE provides access to unparalleled learning opportunities and also invites global leaders to address members in the UAE.

Most importantly, the chapter gives the UAE invaluable global exposure and offers competitor insights and benchmarking. To put it in a nutshell, SITE is all about global connections, motivational experiences and business results.

Why is the chapter restricted to the UAE and not the region as a whole?

The UAE has the largest membership base [in the Middle East] and to focus our effort and serve the community we decided to launch the UAE chapter. The aim is to make this the regional base once we consolidate the chapter here.

What networking programmes are scheduled for the chapter?

We organise three meetings a year for our chapter members and various activities like the SITE Run the World programme where we encourage SITE members to stay fit. We will be hosting a networking reception at GIBTM 2009 for the first time.

How is SITE UAE chapter going about educating the industry?

We organised the first ‘State of the Incentives Market’ open forum in September 2008. This will now be an annual forum for the industry where suppliers and buyers as well as government representatives can discuss the pressing issues concerning our industry. Moving forward, we will develop more programmes for our industry colleagues such as training and commission research as well as develop a white paper for the region.
