Hyderabad receives tourism award

The Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), managed by Accor Hospitality and jointly owned by Emaar Properties PJSC Dubai and Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Ltd, won the Best Convention Centre award at the National Tourism Awards for the year 2007-08. This was the second consecutive year the centre had lifted the trophy.


The Union Home Minister, Shri. P. Chidambaram presented Fifty two National Tourism Awards were presented at an awards ceremony held in Feburary and attended by the Union Home Minister, Shri Chidambaram and minister for tourism and culture, Ambika Soni.


“This recognition comes at the right time as we are all set to hone our focus on the international segment. We are confident that this award will further augment our efforts to market the city of Hyderabad and subsequently the country as a lucrative meetings option,” said Phillip Logan, general manager, HICC.


HICC opened in January 2006 with the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas event. Since then, it has attracted several prestigious events of national and international significance with delegate strength ranging from six to 6,000. It has made significant inroads into the international meetings segment in the last couple of years winning bids to host some prominent international meetings including the International Congress and Convention Association’s (ICCA) annual conclave in 2010.
