PCMA Promotes Hybrid Sessions for Convening Leaders

This year's PCMA Convening Leaders conference is getting ready to kick off next week in Chicago, and event professionals unable to get to the Windy City will be able to sit in on certain sessions remotely, and even earn CEUs without leaving their offices. Perhaps best of all, the new technology will let hybrid attendees communicate with one another to discuss future trends in meeting design, strategy, and event tech.

Highlights of the hybrid options include general sessions with Andrew Zolli, Diana Nyad, and Dan Pallotta; Thought Leadership sessions with Scott Stratten, Helen Marriage, Simone Ahuja and Erin Meyer; "Boom! 5 Education Disruptors and their Implications for Conference Learning Design"; "Produce Powerful Emotional Experiences To Make Your Events Matter"; and "Attendance Marketing: Steal These Ideas."

Jennifer Kingen Kush

"Every year, we have seen an increase in both our remote and face-to-face audiences since first streaming in 2010," Jennifer Kingen Kush, director of experience marketing for PCMA, told IMR. "The hybrid [programming] has been a great away to include those who can’t make it physically to the conference." Last year, she added, the conference saw nearly 1,000 remote attendees. This year's event has already seen hybrid registration from 17 countries.

"The audience engagement has also grown every year," Kush continued. "We spend a great deal of time with our speakers preparing for the each session and identifying our engagement opportunities. During each session, there is a live text chatted hosted by a hybrid moderator in the session remove with all of the remote attendees. It allows everyone to actively participate and even ask the speakers questions."
New for this year, the hybrid attendees can download the event app to participate in live polls and have session information at their fingertips. "We are also introducing a daily 'virtual happy hour' to extend the networking at the end of each day," she added. "This organically developed last year when the attendees didn’t want to leave the final sessions. So we planned a virtual happy hour two days later to provide an additional networking opportunity."
In the conference's Learning Lounge, PCMA will host a MashUp Studio that will stream live from the show floor and engage the face-to-face audience, educating them about how PCMA created the very conference they are attending. "Attendees can learn more about producing a hybrid event during 'VEI: Behind the Scenes: Planning PCMA's Hybrid Event' on Tuesday afternoon from the team who produces it. And the onsite audience can also learn more about the Virtual Edge Institute and upcoming opportunities to find out more opportunities about learning how to produce these events."

The hybrid online registration is complimentary. To learn more, or register online, visit conveningleaders.pcma.org/hybrid. Keep an eye on InternationalMeetingsReview.com next week for live updates from the conference.
