MPI Educates 900 at IMEX America; Foundation Raises $190,000
IMEX America's four-year growth has been supported from the outset with educational support from Meeting Professionals International by its "Smart Monday" program that kicks off the annual Las Vegas tradeshow.
Smart Monday offers a full day of education in various learning formats in addition to career development open to all IMEX attendees free of charge. As IMEX America’s strategic partner and premier education provider, MPI organizes more than 30 concurrent and "deep-dive" education sessions.
This year, more than 900 attendees logged more than 45 clock hours of education (including 39 education hours and four keynote sessions) as MPI continues to focus on enabling professional development.
Cindy D'Aoust, MPI's chief operating officer, shared her insights at the closing press conference.
"MPI has had a four-year partnership with IMEX," D'Aoust told IMR, "and it really is focused on us delivering professional development to our community and to those members of the industry that are not yet part of the MPI community."
The educational hours, she continued, are a notable value for planners as they look to achieve certification or recertification, and improving their overall professional development.
Meanwhile, the organization's Foundation, which raises funds for chapter grants and scholarships, exceeded expectations when 1,600 delegates attended the MPI Rendez-Vous networking event staged courtesy of Caesars Palace. More than $190,000 was raised to enable further investment and support. At the time, Gus Vonderheide, chairman of the MPI Foundation, said that the contributions will help grow the knowledge base of the meeting and event industry "by nurturing people within the MPI community who will be instrumental in moving our industry forward.”
