On Location at IMEX: Carina Bauer Details Show's Growth

IMEX 2015 has kicked off in Frankfurt, with buyers and suppliers from around the world gathering to catch up on the latest developments and trends in the meetings and events industry. IMR’s James Latham met up with IMEX Group CEO Carina Bauer on the first day of what is reportedly the biggest-ever IMEX.

Expansion from the Asian and technology sectors reached an estimated 16 percent over last year, Bauer said, and venue representatives (like the Calabar Convention Centre in Nigeria) and destination representatives (like Denmark’s Visit Faroe Islands CVB) were among the 55 new stands.

The before the show floor opened, attendees participated in Association Day at Kap Europa. "We really worked hard to take the content level up a step," Bauer said. One project had attendees discuss their various challenges and then build a "next generation association" out of Lego blocks. (Results can be seen on Twitter under the hashtag #IMEXAssnDay.)

Today, at the IMEX Opening Ceremony, SAP CEO Bill McDermott will serve as the keynote speaker. “He will speak about what meetings and events can do for corporations' bottom line,” Bauer said.
