How Maritz Developed Its Global Meetings Network

At this past spring's IMEX Frankfurt conference, IMR's James Latham sat down with Ben Goedegeburre, global general manager of EMEA for Maritz Travel Company to discuss the evolving Maritz Global Meetings Network

At the time, Maritz Travel Company had finalized the development of the network by adding 25 global partners representing nearly 60 countries, including: Albamy, B Network, CIM Global, Congrex Switzerland, Connect DMC, Consorcio Holding, Destination Asia, drp, Emirates, Eventia, ESA, Gema Tours, GIS, Grupo, Elis, ID Events Australia, Mazurkas, Megatours, Moloney & Kelly Travel, Organizacion S.A., Pacific World, Premio DMC, Terramar Destinations, Uniline Exhibitions and Walthers DBS.

As IMR partner MeetPie noted, The Maritz Global Meetings Network partners were chosen in regions where client demand is high: Asia Pacific; Europe, the Middle East and Africa; and Latin America. 

The network, Goedegeburre said, is a collection of diverse companies that cover different aspects of the market. "We're proud to be associated with [these brands]. We've chosen companies that are best in class for what they do to mirror what we do in the U.S."

The network was built on the basis of not taking business away from anyone but, instead, making other companies part of what they need to deliver, Goedegeburre said. In this way, Maritz can use local expertise and knowledge and build on that. Account managers pay attention to the needs of the clients, and can address that from a local level. "The success of what we are doing in the future is the success of everybody," he said. "We will be focusing on things like education and putting it out to the different regional partners. Local knowledge and local expertise and people who speak the language—that's a principal part of why we built the network. You might have a legislation or something that is very similar in a global sense, might be interpreted differently on the local level or indeed be legislated differently at the local level. That's why we think the network will be hugely successful."
