On Location: How to Book a Corporate Stay at the Sheraton Boston Hotel

One of the Sheraton Boston Hotel's 53 meeting rooms

International Meetings Review just returned from a trip to Boston, where we stayed at the very underrated Sheraton Boston Hotel and came back with a wealth of selling points for planners looking to book this gem in the heart of the city.

The Sheraton Boston, the largest hotel in the city, is about four miles from Logan International Airport and blocks from the financial district. It has roughly 70,000 square feet of meeting space with 53 meeting rooms and seven ballrooms, and is connected by an indoor walkway to The Hynes Convention Center, which has 175,000 square feet of exhibit and auditorium space. The hotel can also offer both indoor and outdoor space to clients, with a 3,680 square-foot outdoor patio on the fifth floor, one of Boston’s only outdoor event venues.  The patio is perfect for receptions for up to 400 people or intimate private events.

The hotel's Grand Ballroom Complex, 20,000 square feet of flexible meeting space with roughly 23-foot-high ceilings, an audio visual balcony and more than 7,500 square feet of pre-function space, can be broken down into eight unique spaces. The full complex is made up of the Grand Ballroom, Liberty Ballroom, Independence Ballroom and Republic Ballroom.

The Sheraton Boston has more than 40 guest suites located throughout the hotel that can be used for small groups and meetings. The hotels has four presidential suites located on floors 26-29 with Beacon Hill being the largest of the suites. (The Beacon Hill Suite is located on the 29th Floor.)

PSAV is the in-house AV provider for the Sheraton Boston. Working with the hotel team, they can assist meeting planners depending on their needs including computer interfaces, high-definition imaging, rigging, power distribution, component video, special effects, concert sound and lighting, HSIA, virtual meetings, plus all the traditional basic equipment.

The bandwidth throughout the hotel is 100MB. Wi-Fi is available in the public spaces of the hotel for a fee, and is available to Platinum Starwood Preferred Guest members. (For the record, Platinum is the hotel's highest tier of membership and is earned by having 25 eligible stays or 50 eligible nights within a calendar year.)

The Sheraton Boston uses eVent Portfolio to streamline the events process for meeting planners. Its onsite audio-visual team can assist in building and maintaining a meeting app for any group visiting the hotel.

Executive Chef Chad Kennedy supervises and oversees the culinary staff at the Sheraton Boston that are responsible for the production of food served at hotel banquets as well as food served through room service and at the hotel’s newly renovated Café Apropos. The hotel offers a wide range of menu options that can be customized to ensure they meet the needs of planners and clients. (Before meeting with the hotel team, planners can access and review the hotel’s menus online by clicking here.)

The Sheraton Boston offers meeting planners and guests unique spaces like the outdoor pool deck, which is great for outdoor receptions during the warmer months. As well, the newly renovated Café Apropos is a great location for receptions in a non-traditional space in the hotel. And the newly opened Green Tangerine spa is a nice perk for meeting planners and attendees to enjoy.

The Sheraton Boston offers a program called Alive on Five, which gives socially responsible meeting planner the choice they can feel good about. When booking an Alive on Five meeting, they are helping to fund projects that remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The Sheraton Boston and NativeEnergy have partnered to establish carbon neutrality in the Alive on Five meeting space. NativeEnergy measures the amount of carbon produced by every meeting and executes projects that remove the excess carbon from the atmosphere. Sheraton Boston purchases the "carbon credit," which facilitates this process, allowing planners to host a green meeting.

The Sheraton Boston Hotel is a member of the Starwood Convention Collection. As a Starwood Convention Collection hotel, meeting planners can utilize the program for continuity from meeting to meeting – seamless paperwork, dedicated convention service support and exclusive concessions for meeting combinations large and small.
