Sarawak Convention Bureau Reaches Out to China MICE Market

As part of an international branding strategy, the Sarawak Convention Bureau participated in the recent Business Events Roadshow to China organized by the Malaysian Convention & Exhibition Bureau from November 28 November to December 8. The roadshow sought to market and promote Malaysia as Asia’s business events hub, focusing on Penang, Langkawi, Kuala Lumpur, Sabah and Sarawak.

The Sarawak delegation was represented by Donny Tan and Jason Tan, both business development managers of SCB alongside the Malaysian delegation represented by MyCEB and other industry players from Sabah, Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur.

“Our main purpose of participating in the roadshow was to strengthen our marketing and promotional efforts towards recovery of the business events and tourism industry," SCB’s Managing Director Mike Cannon said in a statement. "We also made sure to touch base with our existing key contacts in China as well as establish new ones to expand our network of potential conference hosts and partners from China.”

The roadshow began in Guangzhou on November 28, moving on to Chengdu, Beijing and finally Shanghai. Aside from a destination presentation on Sarawak, SCB had created a special package for the China market that included welcome banners, live band performances and a themed dinner showcasing local Sarawak and Malaysian cuisine, among others.
