Kyoto Promotes City Aquarium as Event Venue
Kyoto is promoting a new venue for the conference, events and incentives market.
The Kyoto Aquarium opened in 2012 and is available for business visitors to Japan's former capital. Located in Umekoji Park, the aquarium is surrounded by parkland, making it a good spot meetings professionals for a range of events. The aquarium offers both high-end conferencing facilities as well as an unusual location for receptions and dinner.
The venue can be bought out for evening events such as products launches, receptions and gala dinners. One of its biggest advantages is that almost all of its events space is indoors or covered, so events will not be affected by the weather. Guests can can eat in front of the large tank or walk around and take in the whole aquarium.
Kyoto’s Aquarium has a 1,500-seat dolphin stadium, while smaller spaces can accommodate from 80 to 350 people. The aquarium also has technical capabilities for presentations.
In a statement, Kyoto Convention Bureau’s international marketing coordinator James Widgren said that the new venue “demonstrates the strength of facilities available to the meetings and conference market." Its location, transport links and accessibility to several high-end hotels are all expected to boost its appeal for hosting international events.
