Italy: Five Google Tools to Promote Events

Google tools that can be used successfully to promote events are rather undervalued, despite the fact that they are largely free, and can be accessed through desktop or mobile. Here is a brief overview.

1. Google Maps
The most commonly-used maps in the world are an excellent promotional tool for a venue: as well as providing its precise location and enabling visitors to calculate their route to it, they offer a series of other advantages: a privileged position in Google searches, a profile with a photo and user reviews, with the possibility to reply and post updates. Finally, users can view events to be held at the venue and purchase tickets.

2. Google Business View
Google Business View is not free of charge, but offers 360° virtual tours of the venue at a resonable price, which can be viewed on maps as well as on the venue’s own website.

3. Google Plus events
The event creation service on Google Plus has some advantages over the Facebook service of the same name: first of all, it is easy to create an event with a choice of preset themes, and the service can send out multiple invitations and sync with Google Calendar on Gmail and on Android. This last function in reality borders on spam, because it automatically inserts notices, even for events for which attendance has not been confirmed. Finally, the Party mode is a highly interactive function, as it automatically uploads and shares the photos of guests at the event.

4. Google Now
Google Now first and foremost provides real-time information on events in the area around the user’s location. The service sends users a reminder of the event they are attending,  and based on traffic, advises them when to leave. Once they have arrived at their destination, it provides a map to the precise venue. If an event does not have its own app, Google Now is a good alternative for those with smartphones, whether using IOS or Android. All the information is linked to the event page on Google Plus, and therefore enables interaction with all the content posted there.

5. Google Hangout
Google videoconferencing allows events to be streamed easily, and has a screen-sharing option, which is very useful for example for company presentations and product launches. It can also be integrated with YouTube and Google Plus events: the only limit is the user’s imagination.

Some of these tools will obviously be more useful than others depending on the type of event staged, but they are all well worth exploring.
