Expo 2015: with a EUR 40 million stand, Germany is the first major country to officially confirm its participation

Last week, Germany officially signed a contract for what will be one of the biggest pavilions at Expo 2015, and presented the project in Milan, alongside Expo 2015 CEO Giuseppe Sala and president of the Region of Lombardy Roberto Formigoni.

Germany’s signature follows that of Switzerland: the two countries are to date the only ones in Europe to have officially confirmed their participation: the focus is now on the next International Participants Meeting, to be held at the MiCo conference centre in Milan from 10 to 12 October, which will be an opportunity to get the 98 enrolled countries to make an official commitment, and seek to recruit new ones.

Germany has decided to make a substantial investment in the Universal Exposition, acquiring the largest plot, an area of 4,913 square metres, to construct a pavilion costing EUR 40 million. Dietmar Schmitz, General Commissioner of the German Pavilion, explains why: “As an active and dedicated member of the global community, Germany has always taken part in all the Universal Expositions authorised by the BIE. We will also be present at Expo 2015, and will again boast one of the largest pavilions”.
