Roundup: New Event Hotels in Rwanda, Mexico and Vietnam

Rwanda, Mexico and Vietnam are expecting a set of new luxury properties in the coming years. One&Only Resorts is making its debut in Rwanda this July and Mexico will welcome a new St. Regis property in 2021. Set to debut in 2020, the 700-room Viceroy Da Nang Vietnam will be centrally located in the up-and-coming Cocobay – a master-planned hospitality and entertainment hub.

One&Only Nyungwe House

Scheduled to open in July, One&Only Nyungwe House will anchor the new One&Only Nature Resorts Division. One&Only Nygunwe is located in Gisakura, a working tea plantation next to Nyungwe National Park. The lodge will arrange treks to see chimpanzees, various bird species and Kamiaranzovu Waterfalls. One&Only Nygunwe will have 22 rooms and suites housed in wood villas. Amenities include open fireplaces and private decks for wildlife watching.

One&Only Nygunwe is the first of two lodges set to open in Rwanda. Following suit in 2018 will be the Only&Only Gorilla’s Nest, located in the foothills of the Virunga Volcano range. Similar to One&Only’s Wolgan Valley resort in Australia, the new African properties will aim to get carbon-neutral certification by CarbonZero.

No information on the property’s meeting and event spaces was available as of press time.

The St. Regis Los Cabos

St. Regis Hotels & Resorts is set to expand its presence in Mexico with the acquisition of a 120-room hotel and 60 residences in Los Cabos. Expected to open in early 2021, the St. Regis Los Cabos will be located in Quivira, Los Cabos – an exclusive residential community.

The new hotel will be part of the 1850-acre master-planned luxury Quivira community that is expected to have a private beach club, village center, nature reserves and 20 miles of walking and biking trails.

The St. Regis Los Cabos will have 120 guest rooms, all of which will have ocean views and butler service. Guests will have access to three dining venues: a specialty restaurant, a beachfront grill, and a poolside restaurant with small plates. Additionally, guests can take advantage of the onsite fitness and wellness center, multiple swimming pools, saltwater lagoon, luxury cabanas and a destination spa.

The resort will have meeting and event spaces for corporate gatherings, retreats and weddings complete with state-of-the-art technology and catering services, though no specific details were available as of press time.

Viceroy Da Nang Vietnam

Cocobay, a soon-to-be hospitality and entertainment hub in Southeast Asia is expecting a new five-star property in 2020: Viceroy Da Nang Vietnam. Cocobay’s master plan comprises a convention center, opera house, sports arena, beach club, retail stores and numerous nightlife and dining outlets.

Viceroy Da Nang Vietnam will sit high above Cocobay, recognizable by its twin towers that are adjoined by a ‘crystal bridge.’ The resort will boast 700 rooms, suites and condos; eight restaurant, lounge and bar concepts; plus meeting and event spaces, including three separate ballrooms. The resort will also offer poolside cabanas, a full-service spa and a ‘wellness oasis.’
