Delta Expands Flights Between Minneapolis and Honolulu

Delta has announced new seasonal service between Minneapolis and Honolulu, something David Uchiyama, vice president of brand management for the Hawaii Tourism Authority, expects to boost travel during our slower fall and winter shoulder periods between 2015 and 2016.

"It will provide visitors from our core U.S. East market with greater accessibility to the Hawaiian Islands during the cold winter months," said Uchiyama  in a written statement.

Uchiyama says it will generate $52.2 million in visitor spending and $5.5 million in state tax revenue. The seasonal flight will also provide Delta the opportunity to assess the potential demand from the market with the possibility of maintaining the route in the longer-term.
"Airlift to the state is anticipated to reach a record 11.1 million seats in 2014," he says, "and the HTA will work with our airline and industry partners to maintain and grow this inventory by promoting and sustaining travel demand for the Hawaiian Islands."
