Germany Update: Two New Convention Venues in Frankfurt & Berlin

As of this spring, meeting planners and delegates have two new large-scale conference venues in Germany. Take a look at the Kap Europa in Frankfurt and the CityCube in Berlin, both built close to existing expo centers.

Kap Europa in Frankfurt is Uber Green

Kap Europa

Within a five-minute walk of the Messe Frankfurt in the central Europa district, Kap Europa has already earned a Gold level certification from The German Sustainable Building Council (a world-first). Sustainable elements include a concrete building core to keep AC use down, the use of regional woods to lessen emission footprints, controllable LED lighting (and harnessing natural light whenever possible), electricity generated from exclusively renewable sources and a 10,000-square-foot rooftop garden. The panoramic terrace also has top views of the Frankfurt skyline.

The Kap Europa is right next door to exhibition grounds and the new Skyline Plaza shopping center. It has space for up to 2,400 people in total across several floors (which can be booked individually). Level One has six multi-function rooms; Level Two has the Meridian Hall for more than 600 people; Level Three has three conference rooms; and Level Four has the Horizon Congress Hall for up to 1,000 people, catering space and the open-air terrace.

Upcoming events at Kap Europa include the 24th German Skin Cancer Congress and the German Engineer's Convention.

Berlin's New CityCube

CityCube Berlin

Built in just 22 months, CityCube Berlin opened in May as a tech-focused venue with fiber optics and WLAN lines for high-speed communication.

The CityCube is located adjacent to the southern entrance of Berlin ExpoCenter City. It has two main floors, 47 meeting rooms and flexible wall partitioning for adjustable room configurations and footprints. The lower floor can have as many as eight conference rooms for up to 3,000 people (and/or a display area), while the upper floor has no pillars and is a good pick for trade shows and expos. For smaller gatherings, the building has 30 offices, suites and meeting rooms, and is close to additional space in ExpoCenter City's Halls 2, 4, and 7.

In total, the 230,000 square feet of usable space can accommodate 11,000 delegates.

Recent events at CityCube include MEXCON, the joint conference of Germany’s major meetings associations; the Medicine and Health Congress in the Capital; and the International Association of Congress Centres (ending today). Upcoming events include the annual conference of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) in October. In 2015, the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine and the European Academy of Neurology will be held at CityCube Berlin, and bookings have already been taken for events in 2021.
