Roundup: AIME to Launch New City Experiences, AccorHotels Invests in Banyan Tree

New city experiences at AIME and a new partnership between AccorHotels and Banyan Tree are the meetings and events industry stories to watch today.

AIME Launches New City Experiences

For its 25th anniversary year, the Asia-Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo (AIME) will launch 10 Melbourne City Experiences as part of its 2017 Hosted Buyer program.

The Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) has partnered with a selection of venues, accommodation and attractions across the broad business events sector, emphasizing unique products and services that best showcase Melbourne to international and domestic event organizers, AIME said.

Each tour will visit three locations, allowing hosted buyers to choose from a range of Melbourne experiences. Examples include sampling local coffee at a riverfront brunch. designing a meditation journey for delegates at the Novotel on Collins; going behind the scenes at Luna Park to design their own ride; flying a scenic loop around city landmarks in a helicopter; or exploring the MCG on a custom tour of the arena.

AIME will take place February 21 - 22, 2017, offering hosted buyers education programs, peer-to-peer networking sessions and appointments with event suppliers, as well as complimentary travel and accommodation.

Banyan Tree, AccorHotels Partner for Growth

In hotel news, Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts has announced a new strategic partnership with AccorHotels.

The agreement, which includes a significant investment from AccorHotels, allows both companies to co-develop the brands owned by Banyan Tree around the world. Banyan Tree will remain an independent company and continue to secure hotel management agreements on its own while taking advantage of AccorHotels’ help in growing the brands worldwide.

Banyan Tree will also have access to AccorHotels’ global reservations and sales network, as well as its loyalty program, Le Club AccorHotels.

AccorHotels will invest an initial SGD 24 million (c. €16 million) in Banyan Tree through a mandatory convertible debenture that at conversion will give AccorHotels an approximately 5 percent stake in Banyan Tree. AccorHotels has an option to purchase an additional approximately 5 percent stake.
