The latest from IMEX America and a charitable event at the Phoenix Convention Center are today’s top headlines in the meetings and events industry.

AI Event App Wins #IMEXpitch Competition

At IMEX America, an artificial intelligence (AI) event networking solution created by Grip was named the winner of the #IMEXpitch competition.

The #IMEXpitch competition saw five event technology start-ups from around the world showcase their products to a live audience of event professionals and a panel of judges. Grip was voted the winner by the judging panel and also won the live audience poll that took place during the event. As the winner, Grip will receive a free space at the Technology Pavilion at next year’s show in addition to national and international publicity. Other contenders taking part in the annual competition included Invite the Media, EventGeek, EventCollab and Showslice.

Each company was given five minutes to pitch its product at IMEX including its concept, features and unique selling points.

Gripp’s event matchmaking app connects delegates, speakers and exhibitors through signature “handshakes” that allow users to express interest in connecting with someone. Users can only get in touch, however, if the recipient responds in kind with a mutual handshake, a feature Grip says ensures users aren’t bombarded with unwanted messages.

Using advanced algorithms, Grip recommends the right people and presents them to users in a swiping interface.

HelmsBriscoe Presents Painting to City of Phoenix, Phoenix Convention Center

In a recent ceremony, HelmsBriscoe presented a painting to the City of Phoenix and the Phoenix Convention Center in recognition of their hospitality and support of the 2016 HelmsBriscoe Annual Business Conference and HB Cares charity, HopeKids. The artwork was created by nine-year-old Arizona HopeKid, Angelita Tavizon. The HopeKids organization strives to restore hope and transform the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions, their families and the communities in which they serve. The painting will be displayed in the Phoenix Convention Center.
