Experiential agency helps organise event against gun and knife crime

Jack Morton Worldwide recently worked with the multi-award winning campaigner Alex Rose and his STOP campaign (Solve This Ongoing Problem) against gun and knife crime, to launch a new life-saving initiative at Ministry of Sound. Channel 4 filmed the event for a forthcoming programme on the STOP campaign – part of the Battlefront series (www.battlefront.co.uk).

The spectacular, high-profile event, ‘Start, Think ‘n’ STOP’, launched the ‘Education is the Key’ initiative. Experiential agency Jack Morton and everyone involved in the event, from artists and performers through to speakers and suppliers, are offering their time, services and expertise for free in order to make the launch for this initiative possible.

“Seeing Alex’s passion, commitment and ability to make a genuine difference at such a young age is truly inspiring,” said Julian Pullan, executive vice president managing sirector, EMEA at Jack Morton Worldwide.  “We believe this campaign is vital and are delighted that so many of our partners and suppliers agree.”

Education is the Key is about showing your people that there is an alternative path in life. The Start, Think ‘n’ STOP event is an opportunity for the community to come together and support and inspire individuals to take this alternative path through the celebration of creativity and talent.

Using melted down weapons handed-in or seized from the street by the police, Alex, a graphic design student, has created a symbolic key design, which can be worn in support of the campaign, turning life-threatening tools into a positive force. The keys will be launched at the event.

“My friends and family members have died because of gun and knife crime,” said Rose. “I want young people to STOP carrying weapons and think about what else is out there, apart from joining a gang. Start, Think ‘n’ STOP is about inspiring others to do something positive – everyone has a talent they can use. The event is a celebration of that and a chance for us to start saving lives now.”
Already the subject of a previous Channel 4 Battlefront programme, Rose has taken his campaign to the highest level meeting with Gordon Brown, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Cherie Booth (Street Weapons Commission). He regularly gives talks at schools, youth groups and prisons, and has won campaigning awards from The Bodyshop, The Anne Frank Trust and the Tutu Foundation.
