Convene 2016 Breaks Records as Convention Centre Set to Break Ground

Convene 2016 Review from Fred Productions Ltd. on Vimeo.

The latest edition of Convene, the annual shop window to the Baltic States, hit new highs in February – attracting 170 international hosted buyers, 70 exhibiting destinations and companies, and securing over 3,500 pre-scheduled appointments – the highest ratio of hosted buyers to exhibitors anywhere in the world.

The event organizer, the Vilnius Convention Bureau, is proving to be the galvanizing catalyst for driving the local knowledge economy growth through business events - securing support from Invest Lithuania, the government agency for attracting foreign direct investment, the city universities, the hotel association, the Mayor's Office, and the national Economic Development Ministry. Confirmation also emerged that the city's long awaited new convention center is due for completion in 2020 and that the bureau is charged with attracting events aligned to key sectors including Shared Services, Banking, Insurance, Cybersecurity, and Financial technologies (Fintech). It will need increased funding to deep dive into securing events in these sectors because a "build it and they will come" philosophy has proven fault lines. Resource the convention bureau effectively and they will come should be the approach. Next week, James Latham unveils the Lithuanian capital's intellectual assets.
