No More Starwood Bid From Anbang

This Friday saw another big development in the tug-of-war over Starwood Hotels and Resorts by Marriott International and Anbang Insurance Group: Anbang has officially dropped its bid for the hotel company. 

Starwood's Board of Directors is recommending a vote in favor of its merger with Marriott, which was announced back in November, and both companies are set to hold a shareholder meeting on the matter April 8.

Brussels Airport Opening Delayed by Police Strike

Also this week the Brussels Airport continued preparations for reopening following a series of terrorist attacks March 22 that struck its departures hall, as well as a subway station near the offices of the European Union

Friday morning word came that a police strike would delay previously-announced plans for a partial reopening Friday evening. Police union SLFP argued that new security measures put in place for the reopening were insufficient and argued for stricter screening before passengers were allowed into the terminals.

For planners looking to book in Florida, six hotels near Disney Springs are rolling out a special set of offers. Located in Walt Disney World Resort, Disney Springs (formerly Downtown Disney) is a shopping destination that is set to cap a new expansion project this summer. 

The six hotels offering special packages, all of which are within walking distance of Disney Springs, are B Resort & Spa, Best Western Lake Buena Vista Resort Hotel, Buena Vista Palace, DoubleTree Suites by Hilton – Orlando Lake Buena Vista, Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista and the Holiday Inn in Disney World.

In another promotion that might be of interest to planners, the Grand Hyatt New York is offering new bookings made by June 30 of 100 or more paid guestrooms the a range of rewards, including 10 Deluxe Upgrades at a group rate, 10 Complimentary VIP Welcome Amenities and more. 

The offer is valid for meetings held by December 31, 2017, and is applicable for programs with a Thursday – Sunday stay pattern.
