Why the Meetings Show Matters for UK Business (VIDEO)

At the recent Convene 2014 in Lithuania, the conference's strategic advisor Paul Kennedy of Kennedy Integrated Solutions spoke with International Meetings Review's James Latham about what is driving the growth of The Meetings Show, which will be held for the second time at London's Olympia in July.

The United Kingdom's reputation as one of the strongest outbound markets in Europe has attracted 350 exhibitors from 50 international destinations to connect face-to-face with UK outbound buyers. The event will also provide international inbound opportunities for the country's gateway towns and cities, which will also have representatives connecting with buyers from the UK meetings market.

Earlier this week, our UK partner publication MeetPie reported that conferences and meetings are worth £19.9 billion to the UK economy. The figure was released in the ‘Events are GREAT Britain’ report launched by the Business Visits and Events Partnership (BVEP) at International Confex. Other research puts a value of £11 billion on exhibitions and trade fairs, while the value of the incentive travel/performance improvement and corporate hospitality segments have previously been estimated at £1.2 billion and £1.2 billion, respectively.

As such, The Meetings Show is strategically important to the UK economy both in direct impact terms as well as to its knowledge economy

A strong educational program is supported by the leading industry associations and media while the event has committed to delivering 750 hosted buyers collectively attending over 11,000 pre-scheduled appointments. Such buyers are subject to rigorous pre-qualification and must demonstrate their involvement in the placing of meetings, conferences, congresses, and incentives. Kennedy is at pains to stress that the event is committed to focussing on these meeting outputs and is not designed to service aspects of the wider events industry.
The Meetings Show takes place at Olympia, London from 8-10 July 2014 and registration is open at www.themeetingsshow.co.uk
