What to Expect at EIBTM in Barcelona




EIBTM, set to run from November 18 – 20 in Barcelona, will have several new and notable elements this year. Take a look...

Appointment Requests

For the first time, through the new Hosted Buyer platform, exhibitors will be able to self-select appointments with hosted buyers. Once the buyers have made their appointment preferences and the buyer appointments have been matched, exhibitors will be able to browse and request appointments with more buyers to fill their diaries. Exhibitors will also be able to block appointment slots for private meetings that have been arranged outside of the EIBTM appointment system.

Spanish Hosted Buyer Program

The Spanish National Hosted Buyer Programme qualification criteria has been amended this year to allow buyers from Spain to be accepted onto the EIBTM Hosted Buyer program, even if they place only domestic business. (Previously they had to prove that they had business to place outside of Spain before they could qualify to join the EIBTM Hosted Buyer Programme.)

Meetings Leadership Summit – New Venue and Project Manager

The second EIBTM Meetings Leadership Summit will take place at a new venue: the restored Hospital de Sant Pau complex on Monday evening, November 17. The invitation-only event offers a global forum where 150 senior executives can discuss insights and trends that affect and influence businesses (both now and in the future). BBC Journalist and professional presenter Nadine Dereza will host.

New-look Innovation Zone

The Innovation Zone will be re-designed for 2014 with a new look and feel. New features include Innovation in Action – a digital showcase of leading meetings industry innovations in action as they are applied in real situations and 20, TED Talk style presentations focusing on key innovations. 

Education Sessions for Exhibitors

This year, EIBTM will add new Knowledge sessions for exhibitors. Sessions confirmed so far are: Neuromarketing for the Event Industry, where Wenda Kielstra, CEO of Consumatics, shares her experiences and will show how neuromarketing and subconscious behavior can be applied in the hospitality and events industry; and It’s Not All About Size: Passion Wins, presented in partnership with IAPCO, with speakers from European Cities Marketing (ECM) and IAPCO who will showcase their experience, respectively as a destination representative and a PCO. These case studies focus on how smaller destinations could improve their efforts in attracting meeting planners, and how PCOs could influence the decision concerning the destination choice for their clients.  

On Tuesday, November 18 at 2:30 p.m., Rob Davison, managing director of MICE Knowledge in London, will present the CIBTM MICE Buyer Behavior Report 2014, a compilation of surveys conducted in the region of both venues and buyers which demonstrate the factors that are most important to meeting planners when they are deciding where to locate their events. The survey will also reveal how those planners prefer to interact with destination and venue marketing staff who are trying to win their business.
