UK meetings and events association launches CSR tool

Eventia has recently unveiled an additional suite of online tools to help the events industry with its corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies.

The tools are available through the sustainable events section on the association’s website and include:
– An overview of management systems and why we have them.
– A description of the BS8901:2009 standard and a downloadable guide to the key steps involved in implementing it.
– An overview of IS0140001 – the Environmental Management System.
– An overview of the Copenhagen Sustainable Meetings Protocol, together with the full pdf download.
– A look at the main differences between ISO14001 and BS8901.
– Information on what is accredited and non-accredited certification and benchmarking.
Also launched is an online a guide for an organisation to create their own corporate responsibility code of conduct.  The guide covers which aspects to include and how to quantify and track progress of the creation of the code of conduct.

“We are pleased with the progress the working party has made this year in refreshing existing resources and adding some significant new ones,” said Aileen Reuter, former Eventia board member with responsibility for the corporate responsibility working party and marketing director of Grass Roots. “The tools provided are both practical and accessible and will be of real benefit to the different types of members within the Eventia community.
“Before handing over my role to incoming board member, Karen Rice from Banks Sadler, I am keen to complete one further useful tool that will be launched in August,” Reuter continued. “Some time ago we asked the destination management company (DMC) members of Eventia to provide details of environmental, community and charity-based activities they could offer in their destinations, with an aim to providing agencies and corporates with inspirational ideas to incorporate in their programmes. We’ve had around 40 submissions so far and will make them available through a user-friendly online database this coming month.

“We aim to make this a vibrant resource with DMCs across the globe promoting corporate responsibility activities that generate a positive impact throughout the supply-chain.”
