BI's Taylor to chair Eventia

The annual general meeting of events association Eventia, held on Friday 12 June at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in London, saw the election of a new chair and vice-chair to lead the association over the next 12 months.
Mark Taylor, head of events at events agency BI Worldwide, takes over from Patrick Collins as the new chair of Eventia.

Commenting on his election, Taylor said: “Over the last few years we have seen Eventia’s position as the Voice for the Events Industry gain significant prominence, with our merger with the British Association of Conference Destinations, just one of the logical steps we have taken.

“Our membership has gone from strength to strength, and I am fortunate to have such a dedicated and willing board who live and breathe our values for the benefit of our members.
“We have many challenges in the current economic climate and it is imperative that Eventia offers a visibility as well as a voice for the industry,” he continued.

“We want to achieve many things such as: a wider range of membership including more production companies and venues; target the corporate and association markets for membership; offer greater networking and education opportunities; and continue to offer best advice in the new legislation that is planned.”
The AGM also saw the election of Mark Saxby, sales and marketing director at agency WorldEvents, as Eventia vice-chair. Meanwhile, Patrick Collins now assumes the position of immediate past chairman, and summed up his time on the board as follows:
“My time as chairman was a challenging but rewarding experience, made far easier by the consistency of a competent, proactive team and an enthusiastic board who have taken their roles very seriously and in some cases have achieved quite significant benefits to the overall industry, which is what we are all about. The biggest achievement the association made was to finally build a healthy surplus to provide a solid financial basis for the association.

“The successful integration of the BACD has positioned Eventia strongly for being the Voice of authority for the Events industry. A huge amount of work has gone on over the last few years to build this surplus, putting frameworks in place, systems, processes and, of course, the right team, so I’m confident now, handing over to Mark, that we have the right things in place for him to now take us forward.”
