W Washington DC Reno to Include Rooftop Revamp

The W Washington DC reports that it is kicking off a $50 million renovation project that will include a complete transformation of its rooftop space.

The hotel’s first full renovation since its opening in 2009, the project is slated for completion in early 2019. Other highlights include a complete guestroom redesign with décor that references local monuments and an update to the Living Room lobby space. The Great Room and grand ballroom are also set for a refresh.

One of the highlights of the renovation project is a revamp of the hotel’s POV rooftop bar and lounge. The renovation will add accordion-style windows that can open onto sweeping views of the Washington Monument, transforming the space into a year-round, indoor/outdoor venue. The project will also add new design elements inspired by the city’s Metro

The hotel’s 12,000 square feet of meeting and event space will also be transformed, including the Great Room, which will add new, angled LED ceiling lights with changeable colors to match any event theme, as well as a built-in bar. New custom carpeting will aim to evoke a map of the city’s streets.

In terms of accommodations, the hotel’s 317 guestrooms will get new bathrooms with an open-flow concept, including glassed-in showers designed to let in natural light, as well as new vanities. The guestrooms will also get new custom décor with references to local history, including a minibar that mimics the angles of the Washington Monument.

The top-tier Extreme WOW Suite will also get a revamp, with the 1,176 square foot space adding a floor-to-ceiling graphic mural by Amit Greenberg; a sliding door with cryptic lettering inspired by the Kryptos sculpture of the CIA and mirrored ceilings designed to capture the views of the National Mall and monuments below. Instead of a dining room table, there will be a full-size bar for in-room entertaining.

Finally, the hotel will add two new signature restaurants by Executive Chef Barry Koslow. The ground floor restaurant will extend from the Living Room, serving shared plates and cocktails highlighting local flavors. Additionally, a new speakeasy will have an attached beer garden patio on Pennsylvania Avenue
