thailand industry day 2016

Thailand, Brisbane, London and new Indianapolis event venues are all headlines you should be following today. Here's our roundup of what you need to know.

Thailand Sets Course for 2017

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has announced its key goals in 2017 for its meetings and events industry, as well as the “Meeting in Style, Meet in Thailand” campaign aimed at driving more meeting and incentive events in the country.

As part of Industry Day 2016, TCEB President Nopparat Maythaveekulchai noted that Thailand’s MICE sector generated a total expenditure of 220 billion baht and 164,427 jobs for the country's economy in 2015. For the first three quarters of 2016, Thailand welcomed 750,742 MICE travellers, generating 60.593 billion baht in revenue.

Looking ahead to 2017, Thailand has a four-point plan:

1. Participation in international trade shows in key markets such as AIME, IMEX, and IMEX America
2. Thailand MICE Road Shows in target markets such as India, China, and Japan
3. Sales Missions in new emerging premium markets
4. Knowledge sharing initiative through the Thailand Incentive and Meeting Exchange (TIME)
5. Market expansion through representative offices including Europe and Australia

Additionally, the “Meet in Style, Meeting in Thailand” marketing campaign will showcase Thailand’s MICE destinations, venues, outdoor adventures and team building, sustainability and culinary scene. The “Meet Double Cities Package” will offer financial support of 100,000 baht on groups of over 200 delegates staying at least four nights in more than one city. The “Meet Sustainable Package” will offer financial support of 100,000 baht to sustainable events. Finally, the “Thailand Big Thanks” campaign will offer a financial subsidy scheme of up to two million baht for eligible events of more than 2,000 international delegates staying at least three nights in the country.

Brisbane Emergency Management Conference Sets Attendance Record

In Australia, the AFAC16 emergency management conference set an attendance record when it welcomed over 2,300 emergency management personnel to the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre

This year the event partnered with Deutsche Messe Australia, organizers of the INTERSCHUTZ exhibition held in Germany every five years, and highlighted speakers including Rhoda Mae Kerr, chief of the Austin Fire Department (USA); Mark Crosweller, director-general of Emergency Management Australia; and Katarina Carroll, commissioner, Queensland Fire & Emergency Services.

Next year’s event will take place September 4 - 7, 2017. 65 percent of the exhibition space has been pre-booked onsite.

London Venue-Finding Startup Canvas Relaunches Website

Planners looking to book in London will have a new resource in Canvas, a start-up based in the city, which has relaunched its website with a faster interface on desktop and mobile and new ways for venues to showcase their spaces. The new website is available at www.canvas-events.co.uk.

New Event Venues in Indianapolis

In Indianapolis, event planners will have two new options as the Hotel Tango Whiskey has announced plans to expand with a separate event venue and the Country Market and Lunchroom in Zionsville is recasting itself as an event venue.

According to the Indianapolis Star, the new distillery venue will offer space for events of up to 250 people. Renovations to the space will also add a 3,000 square foot patio and 52-spot parking lot.

The Country Market will be renamed Finley Creek Vineyards, the Indianapolis Business Journal reports, and will hold about 200 people, with extra space to set up tents outside. A renovation project will refurbish most of the inside of the 5,000 square foot building, with new barn doors and a new roof.
