Costa Rica Expands Outreach for Meetings and Incentives

Last year, Costa Rica's capital city San Jose was named Mexico & Central America’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination at the World Travel Awards. In response, the city and the nation are upping the ante, with the first national convention center slated to open in 2016. The venue is set to have more than 51,000 square feet and more than 27 acres of eco-friendly exhibition space, as well as breakout rooms and easy access to the capital’s best hotels and event venues.
As a nation, Costa Rica is centrally located between North and South America, geographically convenient for a wide variety of travelers and attendees. In addition, the nation’s extensive international air service and solid infrastructure makes it easy for business travelers to arrive and move about the country to various venues. (The country's appeal as a vacation destination can also boost its value for the MICE market, both for incentives and for pre- and post-event tours.)
In Costa Rica, groups and business travelers can choose from many major international hotel brands at a variety of price points, as well as unique independent hotel properties that meet international standards. There are also plenty of restaurant and catering options.

Meeting and event space in Costa Rica is equally noteworthy; both hotels and unique public venues offer state-of-the-art facilities for groups both large and small.
Local destination management companies (DMCs) and tour operators can arrange everything from VIP ground transportation and transfers to help with themed events like Costa Rican bullfights, traditional dinners, stylish dine-arounds and gala festivities in museums and historic sites. Team-building events, unique corporate social responsibility opportunities and memorable pre- and post-tours to some of the country’s top attractions are also popular with businesses and organizations.
Visitors can also zip line through rainforests, hike beside volcanoes, join a surf class on the Pacific coast or go whale watching. Championship golf, spas and top beaches are also big selling points.
