Top New Caribbean Hotels for Meetings, Incentives and Events

A meeting or incentive trip to the Caribbean is always popular. Here are some of the newest hotels and resorts to host a small or large group.

Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, Puerto Rico
The newly reopened Condado Vanderbilt has a dramatically large, elegant cocktail lounge with live music celebrating Latin music. The space is ideal for high-end gatherings that require cocktail dresses and suits. (In fact, elegant resort wear is de rigueur) The 63 Commodore and 42 Biltmore Suites,in the hotel’s two newly constructed Suite Towers resemble luxurious private residences, many with dramatic ocean views. With 30,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, the hotel can host everything from a sales meeting to an executive getaway or company banquet. The resort’s centerpiece is the Patio del Fauno Ballroom, which accommodates up to 600 guests. For more intimate events, there are also several smaller venues across the property.

Gansevoort Playa ImbertDominican Republic
While the north coast of the Dominican Republic has been well-served by value-led all-inclusive resorts, it hasn’t had a contemporary, chic, service-led option, until now. Just outside of Puerto Plata, Gansevoort Playa Imbert has 48 suites comprised of one- and two-bedroom lofts; three-bedroom apartments with private plunge pools and spacious terraces; and a collection of four-bedroom penthouses. Each penthouse offers a private rooftop Jacuzzi. Other amenities include a spa with a hammam-style sauna and a meditation and yoga garden. Nearby group activities can include surfing, kite boarding, golf, tennis, horseback riding and more.

JW Marriott Hotel Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
While the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo has plenty of smaller boutique hotels, this is the city’s first true, full-sized luxury hotel that, we hear, is popular among business travelers. The hotel's Vertygo 101 lounge, the Dominican Republic’s first “floating” restaurant and bar, has a glass-floor terrace letting guests view the city street 101 feet beneath them. The hotel has 7,350 square feet of total indoor meeting space available across seven event rooms; the largest can accommodate 360 people.

Malliouhana, An Auberge Resort, Anguilla
A once-celebrated resort in the Meads Bay/Turtle Cove area of Anguilla, Malliouhana was closed for nearly 30 years before Auberge Resort management renovated and reopened it with an eye toward attracting an affluent clientele. Malliouhana’s new look includes 46 new ocean-view rooms and suites; an open-air cliff-side restaurant; a signature Auberge Spa; and a two-tiered infinity swimming pool flanked by private cabanas. The Caribbean Banquet Hall is a good pick for executive meetings, receptions and dinners. For more casual gatherings, beach barbeques are easily arranged.

Riu Palace Antillas, Aruba
The modern interior design of the adults-only Riu Palace Antillas follows the style that RIU is using for its new projects, although guests may be too busy enjoying the beautiful stretch of Palm Beach, the spa or nearby golf course to notice. There are also three specialty restaurants, a pool eatery, and pool and lobby bars. Bonus: Guests can also enjoy the facilities at the hotel’s older sibling and neighbor, Riu Palace Aruba. A bridge allows access from one resort to the other. The resort has two event rooms that can accommodate 200 people for a reception or 150 seated theater-style.

Sonesta Ocean Point Resort, St. Maarten
This is Sonesta’s turn to enter the “next level” of all-inclusives much like Sandals LaSource Grenada and Azul Sensatori Jamaica recently did. Swanky pools and a rooftop bar are just some of the features that separate this luxury property on Maho Beach from Sonesta’s other St. Maarten hotels. This adults-only resort has 129 accommodations, the smallest of which is 480 square feet). The services of professional, trained and rated butler are included in 25 of its top suites, including the Roof Top Suites, Sunset Suites and 2,600-square-foot Luxury Penthouses. Bonus: These suites also offer exclusive access to a private wine selection. The resort has 24,000 square feet of function space for business and social occasions accommodating up to 1,000 people. The Azul Rooftop bar, located atop of Azul restaurant, can be used for special functions, wedding receptions and private events.
