Canada: Renovated Fairmont Waterfront

By Allan Lynch

In late May, The Fairmont Waterfront hotel in Vancouver completed a $12 million renovation of 368 of its 489 guestrooms, expanded its Fairmont Gold Floor and added the new ARC restaurant and lounge.

Opened in 1991, The Waterfront hotel takes its name from its harbourside location. All rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, 300 of which overlook the harbour and snow-capped mountains. The hotel is located across the street and connected by covered walkway to the $800-million Vancouver Convention Centre expansion built for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

One of four Fairmonts in Vancouver, The Waterfront has 24,000 square feet of newly renovated meeting and event space, divided over 10 rooms, plus a treed roof-top terrace. Capacities range from 10 to 788 people.

A fifth, 550-room Fairmont is in the mountain resort of Whistler, approximately 80 miles (130 kilometers) from Vancouver. Some groups divide programs between city and resort.
