Canada: New codeshare opens Asia-Pacific to Canada

By Allan Lynch

A just-announced code-sharing agreement between Canada’s WestJet Airlines and Australia’s Qantas should be of special interest to groups either based in or with delegates in the Asia-Pacific region.

Effective October 15, the codeshare guarantees Qantas passengers landing at Los Angeles (LAX) and Honolulu (HNL) will connect within four hours to WestJet flights servicing four Canadian hubs: Vancouver (YVR), Calgary (YYC), Edmonton (YEG) and Toronto (YYZ).

Stephen Thompson, Qantas’ executive manager international sales, says. “Combined with increased services and an enhanced schedule to the US, this new codeshare arrangement reinforces our position as the carrier of choice for both business and leisure travellers to the Americas, offering seamless one-stop travel options from Australia to destinations across Canada.”
WestJet also has codeshare agreements with American and Alaskan Airlines; Qantas codeshares with China Airlines, thus opening the entire Asia region.
