Canada: Fredericton’s Meetings Matter Campaign Encourages Leads from Locals

A year after its launch, Fredericton’s Meeting Matters campaign has attracted eight events that will have a projected $4.08 million economic impact on the city over the next two years.

“We have been encouraging locals to provide leads to us for several years, and I’m happy to announce that this renewed marketing effort in the local area is providing such great results,” said David Seabrook, manager of Fredericton Tourism. “Each delegate attending a national conference in Fredericton generates $324 per day in direct economic impact for the City of Fredericton, which translates into a more vibrant community and economy for visitors and locals alike.”

Local champions have worked with Fredericton Tourism and the Fredericton Convention Centre to bring eight events ranging in size from 140 to 700 delegates to the city in the next two years. These delegates will stay an average of four days each, resulting in an influx of money into the city’s venue, hotel, transportation and food and beverage sectors.

“Meetings and events happen in all industries,” says Cathy Pugh, general manager of the Fredericton Convention Centre. “If locals let us know about the events held in their industry, our professional team will do the work bring the event to Fredericton.”
