Canada: Business Tourism Booming in Québec City

Québec City Business Destination and Société du Centre des congrès de Québec report that in 2014/2015 the Québec City Convention Centre will have hosted 156 events, including  17 international conferences by March 31, 2015.

The economic spinoff from the conferences, which will have brought some 210,000 participants to the city and account for 155,000 room nights at local hotels, is estimated to be $101 million CDN.

“Business tourism creates wealth,” said Dominique Vien, Québec’s minister of tourism, at a press conference announcing the results. “The economic spinoffs are concrete proof of it. I’m delighted to see the Québec City Convention Centre playing such an important role as a driving force for local business tourism. And hats off as well to the hard-working sales force at Québec City Business Destination, which was established a year ago to develop business tourism. It’s targeting five per cent annual growth in the number of nights through 2018, so the future looks bright.”

The city is confirmed to host another 27 international conferences and meetings by December 31, 2016.
