Canada’s sporty capital opens new venue
By Allan Lynch
Few people realize what a sporty city Canada’s capital is. The landscape of Ottawa is criss-crossed by dedicated bike lanes. In winter citizens commute to work by skating on the frozen Rideau Canal.
Ottawa is home to professional hockey, football and soccer teams. To accommodate the Ottawa Redblacks, the newest team to play in the Canadian Football League, and the Ottawa Fury FC soccer club, private developers have opened TD Place at Lansdowne. TD Place encompasses a 24,000-seat outdoor stadium and refurbished 10,000-seat indoor arena. It is part of 40-acre, canal-side development that includes shopping, restaurants, entertainment district and urban park.
