What Makes an Effective RFP?

Célia Galeotti-Wulf, head of events at the European Wind Energy Association, thinks a lot of associations are getting RFPs wrong. 

Understanding the bidding process is arguably one of the most important aspects of running an international association. Requests for proposals are the starting point of a process that will hopefully lead to a successful congress or event.

For Galeotti-Wulf, rather than sending out long-winded documents that run to a dozen – or dozens – of pages, a planner should keep the RFP concise, and should know exactly what information is needed from the outset.  An effective RFP can be a mere two pages long, but contain all the details one needs to know at this preliminary stage. 

Equally important is hiring a project manager to oversee the bidding process from start to finish.
