Visit London loses major player

David Hornby has left the UK capital’s marketing body Visit London, after six years as commercial director, to concentrate on new projects in the events and business tourism market – one of which will involve working with AEG Europe.

During his time at Visit London, Hornby re-launched London’s Convention Bureau and built a winning team which re-positioned the city’s business tourism offering. He also led the formation of the capital’s first ever major events team at Visit London, Events for London, which has secured a variety of high-profile events for the capital, including the UEFA Champions League Final 2011, World Badminton Championships 2011 and this year’s first London Restaurant Festival.

Commenting on his decision to move on, Hornby said: "The role at Visit London has afforded me much professional success and gratifying achievement and has provided me with some incredible experiences, including an amazing involvement with the London 2012 Bid and the opportunity to build and work with an amazing team.

“Now is an appropriate time for me to focus on some new challenges and opportunities, and I will be looking to work on a number of projects that both excite and inspire me, one of which will be working with AEG Europe.”

Sally Chattergee, Visit London’s interim chief executive, wished Hornby well, saying: “We would like to thank David for his hard work and contribution to the business and wish him every success for the future."

Meanwhile, David Campbell, president and chief executive at AEG Europe, was delighted to have Hornby on board. "David will be providing strategic advice to AEG Europe on the future development of the O2's hotel and event facilities,” he said. “The O2, as the most successful music venue in the world, has had a great opening two years but these developments are an important part of the future and will provide an even broader product offer.”
